A Sparrow hawk - during the Christmas holidays! It shot past my bedroom window like a missile and grabbed a starling from the Pyracantha bush at the rear of my property. It was very distressing for me to witness the poor Starling being plucked alive on the lawn but I couldn't intervene - after all the Sparrow hawk has to eat as well and guess what I COULDN'T FIND MY FLAMING CAMERA!!
Sigh....................................!
Good shot - though there's no need to rub it in - LOL!
Wow!
shame .. hope you saw my photos with the pigeon and sparrow hawk was also a shame, think it got a free meal courtesy of my Bengal cat the wooster.
Funnily enough I thought that the bird had jesses attached to one of it's legs, so I went out for a closer look and got within a broom handle's length - it wasn't even phased by this!
Nothing attached to the legs so It wasn't a hand reared - still fearless though and I still couldn't find my flaming camera!!!
Another sigh..................!
I can sumpathise with you missing the sparrowhawk! After ten months of birdwatching I have never ever seen one and then one afternoon when I was out for the day my son rang me on my mobile asking where my camera was. A sparrowhawk had taken a bird and was eating it leiisurely in the next door neighbours tree house! My son said it was there for a full ten minutes and he could have easily got some good shots. I didn't know whether to be grateful I'd missed the gruesomeness of it, or sorry that I'd missed my chance to see a sparrowhawk!
