A first for my garden this year was the appearance of tree sparrows feeding on Nyger seed. Usually it has just been goldfinches but during my hour five tree sparrows turned up. Could they be adapting and moving more into gardens. No sign of siskins this year although I haven't been feeding sunflower seed - nervous about the risk of infecting the dwindling numbers of greenfinches.
where do you live SteveA? I'd love to see tree sparrows in the garden.
interesting that I attracted Goldfinched with Nyger now they wont touch it in favour of Sunflower Hearts
My nyger seed does not appear to be getting touched very much, again I have seen sparrows at it, but the Goldfinches don't seem to be interested.
My sparrows prefer the suet pellets. I managed to count 9 on or around it today.
In a village near York. We don't seem to have a problem with Tree Sparrow numbers in this area, nor with house sparrows, which I think are the subject of some of the responses to my post.
