Hi I only ever seem to one at a time and today there was a dunnock and a wren both climbing in the Hawthorne together what a treat
Thank you.....I've lived here for 10 years, & haven't noticed them before, despite taking part in the big birdwatch for years. Over the years I've seen grey wagtails, treecreepers, nuthatches, jays & even a goldcrest, in what is almost a town centre garden, but have never seen or heard the Dunnock before. Am very excited.
there was a time when many people mistook them for or referred to the as hedge sparrows as I am not sure but think that was an old English name for them
Yes Dunnocks used to be called Hedge Sparrows
Best wishes Chris

Aha........
Hi Trish and welcome. Dunnocks are my favourite little bird, and that's a lovely picture you've taken. Well done.

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

hi,i also only ever see one,its a regular visitor every winter and i feel quite sorry for it, perhaps they like their own company!
He regularly clears up the seed that has fallen on the ground.
I have two (maybe a pair) that regularly visit my garden. When the (I assume) male sings it is very loud and melodic - lovely!
