Firstly can anyone confirm that this definitely IS a black cap. I've never seen them in my garden before (I am in West Yorks). It seems to like getting right into the middle of the pyrocatha for the last berries the blackbird has left.
Is it likely to have arrived early or been here all winter? I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago.

I had one on my fat ball feeder last weekend (in Oxfordshire).
My mum has the same in her garden in Frodsham.
Lovely photo of a very special bird, I have three Blackcaps 2 have been with me for the past 2 months I have one Female and two males now, the third male came to the garden this month. I think the other pair arrived back in November! Lovely to see :)
There are just four days left to take part in the BTO's blackcap survey!

We have a male and a female regularly visiting our garden for the last couple of weeks, but I've only seen them together once. I haven't seen much food defending behaviour from them though, which is part of what the survey is about. Even if you don't want to take part in the survey (or you won't be able to), the information on that site is very interesting about blackcaps.
