hi
we moved into a bungalow in June and found a birdfeeder station in the garden. Since then we've added another feeder and birdbath and stock and clean daily, but I'm a novice at identifying my visitors.
They are - mostly it's the female we see and yes, she has to eat too but preferably not the birds in my garden!
I didn't join in the last two years, as I had spent 22 years overseas and forgotten what all the British birds were. I was so used to Australian birds, I thought it better to wait until I knew the various species. I used to do the Aussie backyard bird watch though, regularly.

Hi - I didn't even realise there was a forum like this until I poked about after entering my birdwatch data! I think I may become a regular....
there could well be a Pratchett influence, my younger son is a big fan :)
I'm in Notts btw, right on the edge of the village of Rainworth.
Robin and I (Claire) are fairly new to all this birdwatching too - joined the community last year but never had time to work out what it was all about. Learning which bird is which is great fun although in this household it is not a confirmed sighting unless my husband has seen it!!! Found the forum today too whilst looking at how to do our first garden count and managed to upload a handful of photos too. Here's hoping tomorrow brings more birds out into the gardens.
Welcome, I'm totally new to birdwatching too. you will find this site so useful and full of helpful people. I have learnt to recognise so many species this last week by looking at folks pictures and threads on here. Amazing site, I'm well and truly hooked!
Me too, its really keeping me busy at weekends...I even got up early this morning, which for me is not normal! Its a shame the BGBW is only once a year!!!
it will only get more addicted and consuming get out enjoy and chat everyone will help and when your unsure ask it a generally good bunch
BTO? I work full time so will I still be able to do the weekly survey?
also Maria there are lots of opportunities to volunteer with bird counting field work all over the country
