In a field near where i live i keep hearing a loud `sqeaking` type bird call...almost like an owl or sparrow hawk type call. Yesterday as it was dropping dark about 20/30 birds flew in & went to ground. They were all making this noise as if calling to each other. It was quite loud. The birds never took off again. Looks like they were there for the night. Even tho it was nearly dark, they appeared quite dark in colour but appeared white underneath their wings. They were about the size of a crow. Wondered if they were Starlings but i thought they roosted in trees. Any ideas anyone????
Hi Bailey
Welcome to the Big Garden Bird Watch group. :-)
As this group is devoted to the Big Garden Bird Watch, not everyone who might be able to identify your birds will necessarily come into this group.
I'm sorry I can't identify your birds, other than to suggest that neither owls nor sparrowhawks would be in groups of 20 or 30, as they are fairly solitary birds.
Have you considered asking for the assistance of the whole of the RSPB Community by posting your question in the Identify This forum?
Best wishes Chris

They have a very loud and piercing call. If you follow the link below and then click on the Play button you should hear it...

Hope that helps.
