Please, Please! Could someone body help me? Like everyone else who feed garden birds I get tone of Starlings come to feed which is not a problem I have. What I like to find out is why do some of the Starlings have dark beaks and some have nearly yellow beaks?
All I can put it down to is some are young birds and some are adult birds. Am I right in thinking?

hi nickbarn
the reson they probley have diffrent beaks is becuse some are male and some are female but im not sore i also get starlings in my garden but i only have the 1 it had a black beak.
I'll have to wait for springwatch and ask kate ;).
thanks anyway
If they have dark beaks then as I understand it, it is because they are in there winter "outfit", during which they have more spots owing to just having there moult.. This means they all have darker bills, though i'm not certain why some retains the yellow.
