My wife and I saw an unfamiliar bird eating berries in our garden at about 12.30 pm on Monday January 3rd. The bird was black in colour with white head becoming black/white flecked lower down neck with yellow mid size beak. Colour of legs unknwon. Size slightly smaller/leaner than blackbird - by time I went to fetch camera it had gone, By putting seed nuts and bread out over snow period we have seen a large number of different species - so good to see them. Could you please help with identification - have gone through British birds - not there. many thanks
Hi pritch,
It sounds like you've seen a partially albino blackbird.
Albinism can cause a lot of confusion when it comes to identification, and blackbirds often turn out to be the main culprits for having funny-coloured feathers.
Best wishesLucinda
