Does any one know why a squirrel that visits my garden takes gravel and pebbles away? The squirrel has been visiting since last Autumn and initially picked over the gravel in my garden and would run off with a piece in his mouth -- usually after licking it all over. This Spring I added some slightly larger stones and he has transferred his attention to these pebbles. He is most particular, usually picking up four or five stones before he chooses one to his liking. He's left them on top of fence posts, on the summer-house roof, under the summer house, on the patio and he's also buried a few around the garden. He must know that they are not edible. What is he up to?
I am really intrigued by this, like you. We regularly have four squirrels visiting us very day. Never have they taken to our gravel or pebbles. How odd. Maybe you should video him/her and put it on youtube - you could probably make a fortune!! Enjoy!
