Last week at Minsmere.

I was lucky enough to have two days at Minsmere last week.  Wednesday was particularly good for sightings and I've finally managed to get through more than 600 photos!

My first sighting was at Eastbridge, on my way in:

The beautiful glossy ibis is still with us - I wonder when it's finally going to head off?

An obliging wood pigeon seen from the Bittern Hide.

Wish this marsh harrier had come a bit closer - she looked lovely in the sunlight.

A curious robin in the woodland.

A nice rabbit for Easter!

As I walked across the bottom of Whin Hill these two oystercatchers flew over, shouting their heads off.

I couldn't get as close to this magpie as I wanted but there was no way I was leaving it off the thread with such gleaming feathers.

A little grebe batters a fish into submission.

The beautiful pale morph buzzard circling the Island Mere Hide.

What are they doing?

This mallard pair have clearly been working on their synchronisation.

An attractive crow on Whin Hill.

Finishing with another, more vocal robin!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • I was back again two days later - this time, though, I didn't manage to get out on to the reserve until I'd left off.

Conditions were quite grey and there wasn't much about, though I did manage a few bits and bobs:

I've seen a fair variety of birds sitting on here but a magpie's a first!

Awwwwww ............ enjoying some quiet time.

Three noisy greylag geese flying over .............

........... followed by a more distant grey heron.

This mute swan was on a mission!

A distant marsh harrier, though that pale head stands out clearly.

A lesser black-backed gull coming in to land.

They are less big and dark than the great black-backs but are still a fair size and worthy of respect.

Finishing with the lovely Waggy.  I love pied wagtails!

Tell me about it.  It's like January out there!

  • That's the trouble, isn't it? Once you've taken all those photos you have to find the time to work your way through them afterwards!! Some lovely stuff, though, so keep it up :)
