Hi-
don't skimp on a tripod- it will let your scoping abilities down;
Tripods are a personal choice like scopes and bins , especially with the choice of carbon fibre or metal, single handle or multi handle .
Good makes can be repaired with the replacing of heads, handles , bits of feet etc.
Personally I like Mannfroto, Gitzo, Slik ( I used to love the D2) I'm told Bogen are highly thought of in some quarters but haven't tried one.
Remember they can come in different heights so bear that in mind, also if you have an angled scope ( or not) that will influence choice.
Carbon fibre tripes are light and handy but I personally prefer ali- especially when sea watching, it seems more stable. The carbon fibre one gets taken abroad sometimes due to weight restrictions but I think digi-scoping suffers.

The Mannfroto tripods are very good and very sturdy. I use them on cliff tops where it's most windy and they have never let me down before.
Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn't people feel as free to delight in whatever sunlight remains to them?
