Sure I saw a crane yesterday and again this morning flying down Radipole reserve towards visitor centre. Just moved to Weymouth and also very new to bird recognition!

And with those strong beaks, they can carry larger branches than that.
January/February time will see many starting to build/repair nests and the sight of large branches [pic below from 2020] being carried should become plentiful.
