Blue tit feeding chicks sunflower hearts.

Hello all. Sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong place.

I’m lucky to have a Blue tit nesting in my garden, but I’m a little concerned as it seems the single female feeding the chicks is struggling to find food to feed her young and has started taking sunflower hearts from my bird table back to the nest box. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this happen before and if the chicks are likely to survive on a diet of seeds.

Thanks for any help.

  • I have a pair nesting in my box with a camera, they occasionally take the seeds for themselves but don't usuall feed the chicks ... 9 eggs were laid, 7 hatched and 4 chicks have survived, due to lack of food I think. I wouldn't worry, they have amazing instincts and will vary the food. Are you sure there is only one parent?
