Well I’m in Morecambe despite no trains at running north or south today at Carlisle railway station, although trains from Newcastle-Carlisle were running but getting no further. Then I looked at the timetables and I had travel down to Leeds and then wait for 50 minutes for the connection from Leeds-Morecambe departing Leeds14.18 and arriving in Morcambe at 16.30 much later than. All home made cooking at the hotel. Off to Leighton Moss tomorrow. Sunday train timetable. It is very easy to get to Leighton Moss from Morecambe. Better Monday-Saturday. Other places I’m thingkimg of going to. But Leighton Moss in 1973 was the best ever sighting of a Bittern I ever had where it stood only a few feet away in front of one of the hides for well over 30 minutes. Long before mobiles or digital cameras. Only the true professional really got top class photos of wildlife in that era. Of what I can remember of that era there were practically no photographers in any of the bird hides or elsewhere or very few with with cameras. But now it’s so easy to get a good photo with Digital cameras.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Took a lots of photo’s today at Leighton Moss . Just one quick photo just taken with my iPhone from the camera. So haven’t sorted out yet. I’ll sort all of them out after my return home on Friday.
The first photo of a Buzzard at the main Leighton Moss reserve and then most of the day today, I spent at RSPB Morecambe Bay Reserve. Not far from Leighton Moss. It is a very large RSPB reserve around 12,000 acres possibly more. Morecambe Bay reserve which starts at Hest Bank just outside of the town of Morecamne. At the opposite end of the Morecambe Bay reserve there are two hides and one of those two hides are named after Eric Morecambe and for those that don’t know this, that apart from Eric Morecambe being a brilliant comedian on TV for most of his life, he was also a very keen birdwatcher himself of which was not so well known and some may not know about that!

Despite the train mishaps, it sounds like you're making the most of your trip. Your story about Leighton Moss brought back memories for me. Last year, I stumbled upon a hidden gem near Morecambe thanks to https://tripsavannah.com/ – a quaint B&B with homemade cooking too! And yeah, those old wildlife sightings are special. I remember my own unforgettable moment spotting a rare bird while hiking in the countryside.
