Hello Folks,Here's something for all you fans of our feathered friends. Each friday for 12 weeks, I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify this bird. The following Monday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. The day after I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest. Here goes ....MYSTERY BIRD #8Eventually my narrow pins might flag.
LOL, I don't think anyone will look away!
Thank you Caroline :-)
...Yes, as Caroline said, that's my answer too LOL!
I hope you're right, one day I'll get one of these...Maybe the next one :-(
Becca :-)
Congratulations to all of you who guessed St Helena plover (Charadrius sanctaehelenae)! Also known locally as the 'Wirebird', due to its very thin legs, the St Helena plover is the only endemic land bird on the island. It has been estimated that there are around 397 adult birds in existence, their numbers have over time been impacted by land-use change and predation. The St Helena plover is the national bird of St Helena and also appears on its flag and coat of arms.
For the most part St Helena plovers can be found on pasture land, especially dry, short pasture land, but they will also venture onto semi-desert habitats. Invertebrates are this plover's food of choice.
Keep an eye out for your next mystery bird.
Claire

Either that or I need to gain more knowledge in birds before doing these things!
I'll do my best!
Thanks Mrs T!
