Hello Folks,Here's something for all you fans of our feathered friends. Each friday for 12 weeks, I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify this bird. The following Monday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. The day after I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest. Here goes ....MYSTERY BIRD #6A Beatle once sang about one from Baltimore, but without causing an eruption!
Oriole is another word for a blackbird isn't it?
I'm taking a clue from you, Mart - Montserrat Oriole?

Work is for those people that don't Bird-watch!!!!
Congratulations to all of you who guessed Montserrat oriole (Icterus oberi).
Confined to Montserrat, the range of this species has been hampered by volcanic eruption and hurricanes. They can now be found in the Center Hills National Park and the Roaches Estate in the south Soufriere Hills. In 2008, there was thought to be around 400 to 700 pairs. Sadly, we do not for certain how the population was affected by the recent volcanic disturbance in 2010.
Preferring wet high altitude forests, Montserrat orioles are partial to insects, but will also take fruit and nectar where available. Their breeding season is often dictated by the rainy season on Montserrat.
Keep an eye out for your next mystery bird.

Well done ClaireM. Now going to look up a 'Long Tall Sally' which is a bit confusing as it's my preferred clothing label :)

Have to admit, Caroline, I never did make the connection to the Beatles/Baltimore clue, but I did know a bit about Maizie and Monserrat. I confess to a bit of cheating at the end - I looked up a bird species list for Monserrat and the Oriole was one that was peculiar to the island.

Prepare yourselves... new mystery bird tomorrow!
