I'm going to guess it's a tail feather off a red kite.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Can't fool you can I. Yes indeed, a feather from a Red Kite. I actually saw it fall out when they swooped down for food yesterday. Not sure whether it was a tail feather or one of its wing feathers.
I don't know whether they are desperate for food in this dry weather but they swoop down before I've left the garden. I had to duck as they came down and one of them brushed my arm with its wing.

When Titch the Robin flies past my ear it makes me jump, can't imagine what it would be like to have a Red Kite do same!!!!
