  • I'm going to guess it's a tail feather off a red kite.

    Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

    Can't fool you can I. Yes indeed, a feather from a Red Kite. I actually saw it fall out when they swooped down for food yesterday. Not sure whether it was a tail feather or one of its wing feathers.

    I don't know whether they are desperate for food in this dry weather but they swoop down before I've left the garden. I had to duck as they came down and one of them brushed my arm with its wing.
