Once again, it’s time for MrsT’s quizzes to branch out and spread their roots, and this round... you’ve guessed it, its trees! They help regulate our climate and provide food and shelter for a whole host of animals as well as providing us with a variety of resources, we might otherwise take for granted. Let’s face it, what wood (pun intended) the world be without trees? They come in all shapes and sizes, as do the leaves and fruit that they bare and yes, I was one of those kids who loved the school trip to Westonbirt Arboretum. For the next 12 weeks, I will leaf you with a clue or two about trees for you to mulch over.EnjoyMYSTERY TREE QUIZ #12Clue: A shiny place for a choppy broiler.N.B: Next clue on Tuesday.

All I can think of is Silver Birch - don't think we've had that one yet. A broiler is a type of chicken reared intensively for food so no idea of any possible connection.

I think I am with Wendy on this one. Beech has been traditionally been used to make butchers blocks

Haven't we already had Beech?
Probably… now I think about it yes… will have to find the useful post with all the trees so far….
Wild Cherry has a shiny bark and there is a type of domestic duck known as cherry valley. The fungus chicken of the woods also grows on cherry bark.

Lol CinJ ... It was me who compiled the list & Beech was only two quizzes ago!!! Short term memory disfunction is obligatory at my age! Rofl
think ClaireM has a good answer with Wild Cherry
The fruit is shiny and there is shoe polish called Cherry Blossom
believe cherry wood is also used for making chopping blocks

I am absolutely at a loss!!!! No ideas of my own, and this time not even an idea where to get an idea!!! But I like ClaireM's solution with the Wild Cherry and the fungus "Chicken of the Woods". Good luck, I keep my fingers crossed.
