Once again, it’s time for MrsT’s quizzes to branch out and spread their roots, and this round... you’ve guessed it, its trees! They help regulate our climate and provide food and shelter for a whole host of animals as well as providing us with a variety of resources, we might otherwise take for granted. Let’s face it, what wood (pun intended) the world be without trees? They come in all shapes and sizes, as do the leaves and fruit that they bare and yes, I was one of those kids who loved the school trip to Westonbirt Arboretum. For the next 12 weeks, I will leaf you with a clue or two about trees for you to mulch over.EnjoyMYSTERY TREE QUIZ #12Clue: A shiny place for a choppy broiler.N.B: Next clue on Tuesday.
Wendy, Please will you give us the link to your tree list, please? Thanks!
Kind regards, Ann
Hello Ann,
I hope Wendy is not mad at me for interfering, but this is what she wrote on Mystery Tree Quiz #11:
Been doing my homework & these are the trees we've already had... Hazel/Common Lime/Scots Pine/Aspen/Spindle/Hornbeam/English Oak/Yew/Beech/Ash in case you have as much trouble remembering as I did!!
EDIT: And Tree #11 was Wych Elm!
I am waiting for tomorrow's clue, as I still have no idea.
Regards, Bente
Thanks, Bente!
You are very welcome!
Yours, Bente
Thanks for organizing that info B ... I have no further ideas either, been racking my only brain cell & now it hurts! Lol
Do hope that tomorrows clue will provide a blinding flash of insight (but don't hold your breath!) as I do feel that Mrs T is being ultra cunning with this as it's the last one... I suspect she wants the last demonic laugh!!!

Clue: Folk of Colne may have cottoned on to this.
As I have a sore throat today Wendy, I think I may struggle with a demonic laugh.... give me time and my body weight in Strepsils though.
I thought Spindle as used for making the bobbins but I think that has been used.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Hello Mrs T,
still I have got no idea for Tree No 12, but maybe an aid against your sore throat (sorry to hear that you are not completely well): Depending on which bacteria causes the sore throat, it can help quite quickly when you rinse your throat with salt water. Two or three tea spoons full of salt into a glass, and fill up with warm water. Rinse every half hour. If you are lucky, it might get better within a few hours.
It does not taste good, but even if it might not help, it is harmless.
Get well soon!
Bente
I may have to try that Bente, thank you.
Colne in Lancashire used to be an important centre of the wool and cotton industry and as Pete has said Spindle was used to make spindles. However, we've had Spindle in Quiz#5. Can't see any connection with the first clue either.
I've no idea on this one. We need a bit of lateral thinking from Birdie Wild or anyone with a flash of inspiration.
