Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!Claire
More difficult choices. I think I'd go for a dragonfly, probably a nice large dashing Emperor.

I like the colourful Ladybird.

Kelp fly. Annoying little beastie, but it does attract all sorts of birds to nearby beach!

I love most insects, favourite beetle is definately the Rosalie alpina
Favorite moth is probably the Giant peacock moth which we were thrilled to see both a male & female this year.
I can't really choose a favourite dragonfly they are all so beautiful but maybe this scarlet darter.
I love all butterflies, may favourites are probably the blues & fritillaries, this is a lovely spotted fritillary
And of course a spider to finish with, it has to be this one a favourite in our garden,
BUT my all time favourite is one I saw last year for the first time ever & it took my heart, an Ascalphe
I should also mention shield bugs but thats enough photos!

Best wishes

For me it would have to be the Belize blue butterfly.I came across them while I was stationed there.

Gosh, thats a beautiful butterfly Limpy, a well deserved favourite.
I must confess to liking all the varieties of dragonfly, with their beautiful colours.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
