Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!Claire
Sounds good! I won't be able to 'catch up' with it until Monday though but look forward to it! :-)

DAY 1:What's your favourite bird, and why?
That's a hard one Mrs. T, if I had to choose a favourite bird it would have to be the Long Tailed Tit because .........for their tiny size, they have to be one of the most courageous little birds to come this close (see pic) and I can't help but smile every time I see those cute button beaks and fluff ball appearance, they are my traditional lollipop snowballs lol !

Think for me it has to be a Merlin, such a feisty little bird that belongs on my favourite place, the moor, and seems to everywhere at top speed

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
If you haven't guessed already mine is the Bullfinch. Such beautiful birds with a wonderful plaintive call.
I'm away from home at the moment and doing this on a tablet so not sure if it will work.
It's really hard to make a choice because all birds have their own special attributes. However, I'm going to pick the Red Kite. Although they are now a common sight for me I still get huge thrill when they fly low over my house. I marvel at their mastery of the air constantly adjusting their wings and tails with every variation of the wind. Besides which they are very beautiful.
I think it has worked

There are so many birds which can have a claim to be my favourite but I think I'm going to give EJ the nod and go for the osprey as I find I'm really missing watching them at the moment and I'm so looking forward to March when they all start returning.
This is from the last day I saw her (May 31) - the weather was terrible!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
For me it is definitely osprey. Why? Why not :))) They are just so gorgeous in every way!
