Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!Claire
From my angling days it has to be the chub or chebin as we knew them, lovely creatures. I much prefer watching them these days to catching them though! However, I am in total awe of the great white shark, pretty much the perfect predator.
Warden Intern at Otmoor.
I'd have to say Pike, large or small they are amazing predators
The Brown Trout. There as so many variations from silver with yellow bellies right through to dark olives and browns with large red spots. Beautiful.

Grayling,in my angling days it was a favorite quarry for winter fly fishing and Mrs S reckoned they tasted better than trout.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
I would also like to see the Coelacanth as i believe you can still find them in Cumbria.

Favourite fish for me has to be the "Large Mouth Nannygai" for this reason !
Whilst living in Australia, we visited Cairns, N.Queensland and took a fishing charter 60 miles off-shore to the G.B.Reef where we fished with hand lines 140ft down under strict wildlife expert (skipper) guidance on-board to ensure we did no damage to reef ! I was the only "Sheila" amongst 12 other blokes so as you can imagine I got some severe stick from them all !! We had only anchored up 10 minutes when .........yes, the Sheila, caught the first fish, a Large Mouth Nannygai (nearly finished me off bringing it up from the deep lol ) and had caught 3 large fish (2 were released back) before the blokes could take a breath LOL
It was one of those memorable moments when girl power comes to the fore LOL I am afraid the Nannygai being a very good and tasty fish did end up as dinner for the hotel manager (it got us some brownie points ! ) but we were restricted to fish numbers and did no damage to reef; we also pay a reef tax which goes towards the care of this world heritage area.
So folks, this is what girl power looks like ............this one especially for the lads ha ha !!

Crikey, Hazy, that's a fish and a half. Sheila's rule.
I'm not much into fish but I've always been fascinated by Seahorses. Such delicate looking creatures and caring parents in which Dad incubates the eggs.
