RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar

Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!

  • It finished a good while ago but I've absolutely got to name Earthflight.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Pretty well anything the Beeb does with David Attenborough.  Who can forget Killer Whales taking sealions off the beach in "Trials of Life"?

  • Blimey MrsT!!!! I simply can't answer that! There are far too many that are special, each for different reasons!!

Ones I've really enjoyed are all the 'Wild' series, such as 'Wild down under', 'Wild China', 'Wild Arabia' etc.... but Natural World is superb, as are all the Attenborough programs, and I've also enjoyed all the expedition/survey type programs they've done recently such as the current one on Burma....

    I could go on!! ;-)

  • Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch. The presenters are just so enthusiastic about wildlife.

    Regards,

    Ian.

  • Maria that's not choosing one! But I can see what a tough decision it is!

I think I will go with Earthflight too!

That's why I said I couldn't answer that! Lol! I seriously can't choose just one!! I haven't even got started on the various insect related programs there has been.... Plus I forgot the stonking series on the Hebrides (Islands on the Edge)....

One thing I can say is that I really do applaud the BBC Natural History Unit for continuing to bring us incredible and breathtaking wildlife programs!!

  • My all-time great is the programme about the hedgehog dating back to late 1980's. He was called Priddy & it was filmed in Somerset by the BBC in Bristol (I think). I'd love to see it again.

I'm not so keen on the modern wildlife programmes such as Springwatch. Too much whizzing around from bit to bit.

    Best wishes

  • This is tough. The more I think about it the more there are! I'd have to go with Earthflight.

  • N - your film of Priddy is available on DVD, just been googling out of interest & loads of info including that it, & much else, was produced by John King - father of our Simon!  Will investigate more as long list of wildlife progs!

Edit:  Never did post for the mammal one - would have to choose anything to do with Monkey & favourite progs are difficult as there are so many.....Monkey Life from Dorset (of course) & really enjoyed Great British Year series & DA Birds of Paradise & many, many more!
