Welcome to the RSPB Communities Christmas Advent calendar! Rather than chocolates (sorry), with each day that leads up to the big day, why not open a virtual Advent calendar window and reveal a teaser for you to ponder or post a picture. There is no right or wrong answer, the answers will simply be what you want to appear in that window. It’s Christmas, so let’s have some fun!Claire
Most RSPB reserves are so far from me that I've only visited a few so it's difficult to make a sensible choice. Until I've been to more I'd probably choose Minsmere because of the variety of birds there and the facilites. I like Pulborough Brooks too, mainly because I've had my best views of Nightingales there.

Tricky - haven't been to that many yet. Probably Minsmere, although I've got a very soft spot for Rainham. Oh, Pagham Harbour, Titchwell, Pulborough and the Arne are excellent too.
"Let loose the Kraken!"
I should have said top ten reserves shouldn't I?
Then you'd have people giving the top ten and THEN saying, oh, X is pretty good as well ;-)
True, I shall stick to my guns then.
Top ten? Well, I've already said Minsmere but I'll add Loch Garten, Titchwell, Lakenheath Fen, Strumpshaw Fen, Fowlmere, Rainham Marshes and The Lodge. Phew!! I'll also throw in Wolves Wood as it's a lovely, quiet piece of woodland (though I've only visited it once, many years back).
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Mrs T, you're a lovely person but you ask some very difficult questions! In answer to the first question: how do I choose a favourite bird? Aren't they all worthy of being a favourite? Even the wood pigeon has characteristics I like. I'm going to say that all birds are my favourite as they all have a place in nature.
As to the second question it would be very easy to name a place such as Minsmere (we love going there) but I'm not going to. It's any reserve where you can get lost in the joy of being outdoors, with the sound of birds and wildlife all around and the scent of fresh air everywhere.
"Birds are, quite simply, little miracles - and as such they require care and consideration."

Robins they are so cute and will stay near you and eat you out of house and home. Will send the food bill on to you lolololol
I have a soft spot for Seagulls, they are not very well liked where I am, but they are beautiful, and I do feel so sorry for them.
Oops I'm a day behind LOL.
