The Redwings brought me here

Hello.   I've been an RSPB member for many years, but my excitement at seeing large numbers of redwings in my own urban London street led me to join the Community!

  • Hi Keeta
Welcome to the Community. There are lots of wonderful people on the site who are keen to help and share experiences.

I think the harsh weather has brought all sorts of birds into urban areas searching for food. We have had birds in the garden this year that we have neaver seen before like Woodpecker, Bullfinch, greenfinch and a Bramblingwhich only turned up one day - passing through I think.
The fact that so many Garden Centres have run out of Bird food is a good sign that more people are feeding the birds. Lets hope they continue.

Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain.

  • Hello Keeta and welcome to the forum. I am sure you will enjoy it here.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • Hello Keeta, good to hear from you.

  • Yes, one good thing about the dreadful weather.  We've had redwings and fieldfares, and on Friday I was on the phone at work when I looked out of the window and saw the trees full of long tailed tits for a minute or two before they fluttered off.  In the last fortnight, I saw a greater spotted woodpecker not far from my office too - though I guess that was probably in its normal territory.

  • Hi Keeta

    Welcome to the forum.

The bonus of this cold weather is being able to see birds you don't normally see in your garden.  I had a redwing in my garden during the thickest snow, alas it didn't stay although there was plenty of fruit to choose from.  I wonder if the other birds put it off.  It's not been back since but just to see one even fleetingly was great.

  • yeah and me started a red wing sight earlier this month seems they are alot aorund pleassed to see them in my garden some good pics on the of red wing on ther have a nose it says just redwing not seen mine in garden for a while now
