Seeing as the topic of conversation seems to be .........
THE THRUSH FAMILY......... Over the past few weeks we (here in Salisbury) have had our fair share of ice and snow, our latest, fall last night and this morning, 10 hours of snow, settling on top of what we had already, making things worse for the birds trying to forage for food to survive. I have been madly feeding sun...flower hearts, fat, leftovers, seed, dates, niger seed, suet sticks, leftover cooked porridge and potato not to mention apples bought cheaply from or local market. We have of course seen thousands of the usual suspects visiting our feeding station. Most gratifying for us was the sighting of three Song Thrushes, (not seen for many years in our garden) one of which is almost permanently in residence. The other sightings worthy of note was Redwing and Fieldfare at our feeding station, and even Mistle Thrush visiting to feed on Rose hips in a neighbour's garden. It was a privilege to see four members of the Thrush family all in one day without stepping foot outside!!
Hi Silver Fox
For a moment there I thought you were my OH as he goes by almost the same name on another forum!
I have had song thrushes and redwings visit recently but not, yet, mistle thrushes or fieldfares - but I live in hope.
Anyway, welcome to the forum, I am sure you will enjoy it here.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Welcome to the forum Silver Fox!! Great to hear of all these thrushes!

Hello Silver Fox,
A warm welcome to the forum, which I hope you will enjoy as much as I do.
I had my first two song thrushes arrive this last week, and they have both decided to stay a while. They hang around most of the day and are so fat at the moment. You are lucky indeed to have 4 members of the thrush family visiting you at the moment. No blackbirds? That would make 5.
I am looking forward to hearing more about your birds and your garden, and anything else you want to chat about, and don't forget the pictures - we all like those.
Cheers, Linda.

Hello Silverfox, lovely to hear of your garden visitors. Look forward to hearing more from you.
Thanks for the warm welcome from every one ...... oh yes of course Blackbirds, loads of them, we counted 15 the other day, there are so many chasing around I take them for granted... so as you say 5 types. I can't wait for the Spring when a certain male Blackbird sits next to our bedroom window every day and wakes us at 5.30 am !!!???
Welcome to the forum Silver Fox!

That must have been scary!!
We are fairly lucky as the village we live in is surrounded by farmland and the two you are missing frequent such areas, although I had not seen them come to the garden before now.
Thanks for the welcome!!
It was - particularly as he was in the shower at the time you made your first post!
