Hi and welcome to Jenny, snappyhappy and Steve from me too. Great to have you join us. I am sure you will enjoy it here.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Welcome everyone and fantastic photos those who posted them :o)
I'd imagine with this cold spell we are going to be hearing of plenty more sightings and seeing plenty more photos...can't wait!

Hi, this is my first post....For the last few days I have seen redwings in my garden - first time ever - I've lived here for 10 years. According to my bird book, they are moving down from Scotland, so is it unusual to see them in Surrey? rgds missfitz
First post here too....
I was walking along a tree lined but quite busy road between St Margarets and Richmond in SW london and couldnt quite work out why there was a flock of very active starling size Thrushes in the tree above me. Thrushes dont go around in flocks I thought and do not hop frnatically about tree tops.
Redwings of course. A real delight to see them! Seems that London and Surrey are a happy home for them at the moment
Hello missfitz and clivex. As you will see from many threads on this site, fieldfare and redwings are being seen all over the country and more than usual in peoples gardens. So happy you have seen yours'.
Same here....about a foot of snow in South Wales since yesterday afternoon, and after I put more food out for the birds this morning I noticed what I thought was a song thrush skulking behind some pots at the back of the garden. Then I saw the red flashes under the wing and thought "eh?". Grabbed my "Field Guide..." and realized that I'd seen my first ever redwing.
Haven't seen thrushes in the garden for a couple of years but there seem to be several in the village since the new year. I don't think the blackbirds are too impressed at the newcomers...

Amazing. We had another light fall of snow here in Egham, Surrey. And this morning the hawthorn bush next to my house, which is a positively sweetie shop full of red berries, is full of what can only now be described as a flock of red wings and fieldfares – now I know what to look for. There is easily 20 birds, and it’s interesting to watch that there are always one or two birds keeping watch in the small tree that is situated within the hedge, and they swop positions to feed every few minutes. Fascinating.
