A wonderful opportunity to volunteer

Hi there, I am on tour in India and am currently in the north in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and I have heard about a wonderful opportunity for all birders, amateur s included like myself and just wanted to share this with everyone. Every Jan/feb there is a chance to take part in the Indian Government National Bird Census at Maharana Pratap Sagar Sanctuary (Pong Wetland) which is a 403 Sqr km lake that attracts annually a million+ migratory birds and has over 450 species listed. Some 200 volunteers are needed each year for 2 days of counting and recording and they even include meals and accommodation in forest rest houses , how cool is that!! I certainly intend taking part…… if anyone is interested there is an English couple living in near by Dharamsala who have lived here for many years and know the area well. You can call them on 0091 1892221920 or 0091 9218402822 or email bo_eaglesnest@yahoo.co.uk ask for Sheila or Bo. Hope to see you there next year.
