Last year was also my first year. Perhaps it is just the wording on the card but I'm sure last year it was an unlimited amount of visits for the second person.
My understanding is that the complimentary card is for one visit only. It's a long time since I joined but don't recall having a card for unlimited visits, (of course things could have changed).

I'm a life fellow which normally is for two members, but as I live by myself they gave me an additional permanent free admission card for a guest. So I'm quite pleased by that.

Hi Everyone, our membership team have provided the following information which should answer your queires!
There are two types of complimentary membership card, one that can be re-used and one that is for one use only. Which card you get depends on your membership grade, but basically if you have traditional single membership you will receive the One Use only card, and all other types receive the re-useable card. If you have single membership and would like to receive a re-useable card, you can contact our Membership Services Dept on 01767 693680 or via Membership@rspb.org.uk and ask to convert to Flexible membership. This is a new product we’ve been using for the last couple of years to enable people to choose how much they want to pay for membership, and allows many members to donate at a higher level than the traditional classic rates. If you can’t afford to increase your payment that’s fine, but as it’s for up to two members, provided you don’t add a 2nd person, you will receive the re-useable complimentary card instead.

Here are my two membership cards as a Life Member. One for admittance for me as the member, plus admission for one guest on a permanent basis.

This is not clear on the Joining page - it seems that you can have single membership or two people at the same address for £5 per month but no mention of being able to bring in any guest on a regular basis that does not live at the same address.
Can you get some clarity on that Ian?

When I joined as a Life Member, there was only a choice of one type of Life Membership of two members living at the same address! So as I lived by myself I was offered the chance to be able to have one guest admitted free of charge. Which I accepted. There are at least two other members of my local RSPB Group who also live by themselves and they have the same type of Life Membership Card as me with there life membership including admission for one guest which is still accepted at RSPB reserves including admission for one guest who is not an RSPB member. Since I joined a Life Member decades ago there are now two types of Life Memberships. Individual and Joint Life Membership(two individuals living at the same address.) My Life Membership still card is still accepted at RSPB reserves with admission for one guest permanently. The indivdual Life Membership does cost less. Life Membership was on the new members application RSPB website. But since the upgrade to the RSPB website lots of items such as joining as a Life Member have disappeared. RSPB have said the missing pages and missing sections will be back soon. That was August 2023. And I’m still waiting for those missing section to return.
