I'm love birding but have more enthusiasm than expertise. I mainly go birding at Potteric Carr, Blacktoft Sands and Far Ings. I have also visited Thorne Moors this summer for the first time and heard a Nightjar which was fantatstic. My own garden has quite a few visitors too, so each day is full of birds which suits me just fine!!

Why is there never enough time?
Welcome Ladybird
Like you I have more enthusiasm than knowledge in many areas to do with wildlife but I have found this is a great forum to expand your knowledge with helpful and friendly folk. I also really enjoy my garden visitors - for a regular supply of food they repay me with song, humourous antics and a smattering of cheekiness. A very good return... I'd say.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hi Ladybird. From your list of sites it seems you're not too far away from several regular contributors. Welcome to the forums!

Thanks Squirrel,
I'm enjoying this website and have already picked up quite a few tidbits of useful information.
Thanks for the welcome.
Thanks for the welcome. I'm enjoying reading all the posts. I'll look out for who is near me! I'm sure I'll pick up valuable info. I'm always interested to find new places nearby to look for birds. I have an autistic daughter who I can't leave with just anybody so I don't like to be out for too long at a time!
Hi Ladybird.

Here's a neat trick for next time you're listening to Nightjars. Try cupping your hands over your ears to make them "directional" and point yourself at the churring bird. The way the volume changes as you turn your head away is quite striking. Enjoy.....

Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
