Hello everyone,
I have just joined and want to share my joy at the return of the beautiful grey wagtail that visors my garden fish pond . It came last winter and I saw it daily bobbing across waterfall then presumably left after a few months . It is back now and I am delighted. I live in the East Midlands and have only heard people mentioning Scotland in relation. I feel quite blessed as a bird lover . I already enjoy all the usual garden bird visitors , wrens in particular love my trees . I’ve noticed a rise in goldfinch visitors . We have owls , a sparrow hawk ( occasionally) .Also red kites fly over as I’m near Charnwood forest and a lot of farms . Sorry to prattle but I’m very excited my wagtail is back !
Note to self … visits NOT visors , mistype , sorry !
It's lovely to hear your grey wagtail has returned and I hope it stays around for a little while. I am in Kent and we had a grey wagtail visit for a few days before it sadly disappeared, a few weeks before Christmas. Like you, i thought it was a rare visitor as I have only seen a grey wagtail twice before, but the last time this one was in my own garden. I will have a look to see if I can find a photo. It sounds like you have a nice variety of birds.
Hi Nicola - I don’t blame you for being excited, they are such beautiful, joyful birds. I thought he was something very exotic when I first saw him.
We had one in our garden here in North Somerset a couple of years ago. He stayed for a few months, disappeared, popped in for a day or two last year… I just wish he’d stay for longer. Like a fun uncle who never stays for long enough (not that I had one of those either)!
I am so happy to come across this thread as I have a grey wagtail as a daily visitor. West Midlands here
