Exposing a bird’s nest.

During some routine gardening and pruning of a hedge my partner and I noticed a nest that had been exposed, We think it belongs to a black bird as she appeared sometime later looking a little bemused. There are eggs in the nest and she did eventually return to it. We’ve tried to cover the nest with some pruned hedge to at least give it some protection. The feeling of guilt in disturbing the nest is overwhelming. Is there anything else we can do? Many Thanks.

  • Thank you for your response. We’ve been pretty good in recent years with pruning and waiting for the right moment, We tend to watch what’s happening within the hedge and felt it was safe to prune. Alas! We we were wrong on this occasion :-( we will monitor closely and hope things will be ok. Thanks again and lessons have been learned.
