Bird nesting on my satellite dish and it’s not safe

Hello!

We have a bird making a nest on the ledge of our satellite dish. It’s not the best place as there’s not much solid space, so there are twigs all over the floor. I don’t care about the twigs or the bird being up there, I just want the mummy and her babies to be safe if that’s where she wants to stay!

I would honest to God buy a pre-made birds nest if I could and have my husband put it up there. Or I’d have a bird box put up there, but it’s a dove. I always thought it was a baby pigeon but my husband says it’s a dove. A dove won’t get in a little bird box. Is there anything I can do for her? I just want her little ones to be safe when she has eggs and they hatch.

Thank you!

Gemma

  • Hi Gemma, you just have to let them get on with it. Doves and pigeons do build nests in odd places, little window ledges, arms around the satalie dishes, behind outdoor lights and the nests can be sparce with not much nesting material. They know best, hopefully all will be well. It is against the law to interfere with any nest site from the time any materials are brought in. Let nature do its own thing.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • I had a pair of Blackbirds nesting on my satellite dish around 10 years ago and that pair of blackbirds had two young and both fledged successfully. Although now I don’t have any Satellite TV any more as I never watched much TV and after tgat success of that pair of Blackbirds I did get rid of my satellite TV. Not because I couldn’t afford the cost, as I can. But I’m out nearly every day and watch very little TV

    Regards,

    Ian.
