Just watched an Osprey fishing in Medmerry reserve for 40 mins

    That's what I call a joyful birding experience! I wonder if it was a youngster on its first migration? 40 minutes seems a long time for an experienced bird.

    Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

    A great sighting for you Jonathon, as Clare says it may be a youngster if it took so long fishing or maybe it was a poor area for fish. Youngsters are usually the last ones to leave the breeding area and these are the ones heading down through the UK about now.
