Who does this Burrow belong to?!

I have recently discovered a burrow in the garden and we are unsure of what animal it could belong to.

It is fairly close to our tree and looks like it burrows underneath our fence and under the neighbours shed.

The burrow is roughly 16cm in length and 10-13 cm in width.

My initial thought is that it is too small for a fox or badger but too big for mice or rats.

Do you have any ideas of what it could be?

  • If it isn't a brown rat which I would think is the most likely near/under shed areas, etc., then do you get wild rabbits in your garden ? Other idea is a vole. See what other folk think.

  • There are some fields down the road which would have wild rabbits, but I have never seen them in garden areas.

We do get a lot of foxes in our gardens, so I'm thinking it could be your suggestion of a brown rat.

    Many thanks for your reply.
  • Looks like a Badger to me (any poo around there) ?
  • I had a look around this afternoon and couldn't find any poo at all in the area.

I shall continue looking to see if I can find any clues!
