I binged "Chrysalide with a hole in the side" & found this item in an American book about the Rocky Mountains & a Comma butterfly, there was this quote "Harris states that "great numbers of the chrysalides are annually destroyed by little maggots within them, which, in time, are transformed into tiny four-winged flies, (Pteromalus vanessae) which make their escape by eating little holes through the sides of the chrysalis". It's not the same species, but predation by flies is quite common.
EDIT : Actually it could be that yours is a Comma butterfly too!! See here https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species.php?species=c-album
