Graham,
Thanks for updating the Tracking Page, and Google Earth, in preparation for tracking this year’s chicks, Tore and Bynack. I have a couple of queries about the update though:
Watch the Film
The video window in the satellite tracking page is labelled “The RSPB's Richard Thaxton and volunteer Clare Wordley delight in the magnificent ospreys that have been returning to Loch Garten since 1959”. However, the video that plays does not show Richard or Claire, or indeed ospreys, but a guy called Ross Watson talking about his work on the Abernethy reserve.
The video you need is this one, which does show Richard & Claire but is described as Ross – clearly the descriptions have been mixed up.
Colour coding for Bynack
On the satellite tracking page, the 2011 chick Bynack has been given a maroon colour code, which has not been used before – this is fine. However, in Google Earth, his Tour is being plotted in scarlet – the same colour as was used for the 2008 chick Deshar.
I think people are going to find this confusing, especially as the starting point for both is the Loch Garten nest. Another reason they will feel the duplication is unfortunate, is that Deshar was lost over the Atlantic. Would it be possible to change Bynack’s tour on GE to something maroonish?
Many thanks, Sue
Sue C, I also hope the colour can be changed, it will bring back memories of poor Deshar.
A little sceptical and a little bit supersticious. I am in total agreement with you and hope LG can change the colour. PLEASE
Hi Sue C and bright&breezy,
Thank you for letting us know about this. We've now sorted both these things out, so I hope this helps you and many other supporters enjoy following the story as it unfolds!
Thanks again for your feedback,
Cliff
Thanks for sorting that Cliff - I see Bynack has gone purple!
