R.I.P. Good Eggs with no name badges

Hi

I see that the moderators now have new name badges on their posts, but none of the Good Eggs do. Are Good Egg name badges still happening?

Best wishes Chris

  • Right ...

I like the new idea (dons his flame proof suit).

To be absolutely honest with you, I am not bothered my badge went away, I have the physical one and certificate (still to be framed -- one day!) in the house. I am proud of them ... and very honoured I was thought worthy of recieving one.

    BUT

I never joined the RSPB, WWT or this community to get my name in lights, so when something like a Good Egg comes along I accept, and I am proud of it, but the bottom line is, I was only doing what I would have done anyways. It's nice to be recognised, but it's nicer to be noticed for doing good! I thought that was being charitable was all about.

The beauty of it now being one post that really catches the eye, is the fact that the person who posts it probably has no idea what good they have done until later. I like that idea.

People wanted the board changed, and then they wanted it changed back. Then they wanted the Good Egg changed, and now they want it changed back ... guess the old addage you cant please all the people all of the time is certainly true here!

I think it's a problem with the software

If it was still a problem with the software then name badges wouldn't work for the moderators either. So that can't be it. Either way they won't tell us why we can't have name badges but they can.

how about a compromise wouldn't it be possible as was suggested before to put a good egg notice on their profile page? or why not allow them to put it in the status bit.

There is no point in that, and it was never how it was intended. Graham maintained that he was trying to get name badges back for Good Eggs and Moderators.

    Best wishes Chris

    we as in the 'community'

I'm sorry again Ian, but I believe that you are misquoting your own sentence that I quoted.

    Best wishes Chris

  • Sorry!  Like Ant I never joined the RSPB or other organisations for any award but I have now been embarrassed twice this week.  Last weekend it was a volunteers award for 35 years in support of the RSPB and I wasn't expecting that.  Now it is this award that I definitely wasn't expecting and I am a but unsure about it.

Ant is right and you post things without another thought in mind. The problem is that we are all different and all have our individual 'hobby horses' and specialisms (and thank goodness we are and do).  I know mine is quite specifically about bird and wildlife protection issues.  Someone else is going to focus on identification, photography, feeding wild birds, greening issues and so on. As a result those are the subjects that we are likely to come in and post about and may not see quite as much relevance in others.   I would argue that all those subjects and many others are equally important (the RSPB is after all a multi-faceted organisation).

How do you select one post from the thousands that arrive here.  I don't know and it is likely that the moderators eye will be taken to a post submitted at the end of the month.  A good idea and I will say thank you for the award but I do have concerns that other worthy entries will just get lost as a result.

  • Hi-

I'm not going to get into a heated debate over this  but I notice ( as I did before)

◦Writing something that makes everyone smile

    ◦Answering others questions

    ◦Generating conversations about conservation

    ◦Sharing tips on helping wildlife

◦Posting friendly, welcoming and helpful contributions

I don't see the word BIRDS anywhere

I'm currently working on some stuff relating to ID, aging and sexing ,  range expansion etc. of   Larus Michahellis and cachinnans . It's fun and I'm learning a lot but frankly if I used it on an 'Identify this'  post  would the Mods have the knowledge to tell if it was correct or not?

    :)

    Sorry Just a question...

Why do we need this sort of award thingy ?

It is most certainly not the reason I contribute to this forum !

    • A lonely Yellow-legged Gull
    • suddenly flew into Hull
    • "Ay up that's queer
    • said a man by the pier
    • I've heard there's a Caspian in Mull"

That was easy. I await my award.
