Loch Garten Ospreys’ Pages

.......I mean, the individual osprey biography pages which are linked to the LG Diary page.

Some of these could do with updating; I’ve asked the LG team about this, but they said it was the responsibility of the central web team.

Rothes

Mallachie

These are the two chicks from 2009 which were tracked by satellite. Neither of these pages has been updated since mid October 2009; Mallachie’s signals stopped at the end of November, while Rothes is still “transmitting” but has changed location.

I have posted update suggestions in the Comments areas on these pages, and have also proposed adding smaller scale Google Earth maps showing the migration routes and dates, and included links to a Forum thread where these can be found.

White EJ

Firstly, at the foot of this page it says “Add a Comment – please sign in or register to add a comment”.  However when you do sign in, the “Add a Comment” option is no longer displayed.

Regarding the content of the page, EJ has been the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003. She has returned this year and is currently raising 3 chicks. However, her biography page says little about her history at LG before 2008, and people often ask questions about this in the LG Diary Comments. The missing information is contained in this blog from May 2008:

http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/blogs/lochgartenospreys/archive/2008/05/11/Questions_2C00_-Answers-and-Information.aspx

Could the key info from the blog be transferred to EJ’s page?

Henry, Nethy, Deshar

The photos for these pages no longer display correctly – a red cross appears.

Many thanks in anticipation,

  • Hi Sue C

    Thanks for your message.

I've made some small updates to the pages. They won't be updated with every small movement of the birds, once they're on their wintering grounds, just when something exciting happens. For more detailed information, please refer to the blog.

  • Many thanks Katie. I realise that these pages are meant to give a summary of movements described in much more detail in the blogs.

With regard to Rothes, I felt there was a different issue that at the start of this first winter, she didn't have established wintering grounds and was going through the process of working out where her lifelong wintering spot was going to be. That was why I looked up some background info about Varela and Unhocomozinho, (which isn't in the blogs), to give some idea of what these places are like. Anyway, it's there in the Comments, and I will continue to post that kind of info in the relevant Forum thread - currently "Tracking Rothes and Mallachie".
