Hi,
My parter and myself would be very interested to see if there is a 'need' for foriegn language leaflets - especially bird spotting ones. He is from Bangladesh and would be very happy to try his best to volunteer a few hours helping out in this way.
We think it would be a good idea to help open the door to many ethnic groups of people in the UK who also love nature.
But would there be a demand?
If so, could we go about setting up a 'group' or 'network' of people who could help the RSPB out in this way?
Kindest regards,
Crofty
I did have something cheeky written here... lol
We have friends who could easily help out with Russian and Lithuanian too!
Thanks @doggie
yh, even if there were just two .pdf documents available for download on the rspb website. One giving general info on the rspb (and details on how to apply for membership) and her projects and one about common and a few not-so-common birds to watch for in the uk.
Then with a network in place a person, couple or family could meet up with a like-minded person who speaks their language who they visit nature reserves with or go for a birdwatch.
I think it's a 'doer', with a bit of hard work and fun, it can be pulled together. Bird societies from other countries I am sure are used to handling academic material in English and doing their own translations ... so I'm sure that ne of their researchers would be more than happy to sit down at their computer and spend an hour or two translating each leaflet...
But better if we can get 'real' people round the table having a cup of tea and a famous rspb home baked slice of cake. Combine a bit of hard work with fun, a birdwatch and a social event!
Cool!
Sorry for the delay in posting a reply, here is the response from our Volunteering team;
Hello Crofty,
Thanks for your offer of volunteering as translators; we agree that it is important to open the door to more ethnic groups of people in the UK and a great way to do this is by having literature on our reserves. We don’t currently have any opportunities for translating our leaflets as we are currently undergoing changes within our organisation and our brand but opportunities to volunteer in this way may become available in the future. If you are interested, please do send an email with your details to volunteers@rspb.org.uk who will be able to keep your details on file in case opportunities come up in the future.
Cheers
