Nothing to do with birding but if any forum users have AVG security installed on their computer and if so have they had any problems recently.I keep getting messages that the system needs updating and needs to shut down to do so only to get the message that it was unsuccessful so after a day of this I have uninstalled AVG.Any suggestions you techies out there?

Yes the first scan does take a while, but it gets better. The thing is though, it doesn't really matter as it is so unintrusive. Same with the updates. It reminds you by the little icon in the notification area turning orange, then back to green when it is finished.

hello, Micro$oft Security Essentials is not only very effective, it is the least intrusive in terms of hogging computer memory and slowing down your system this is true. If your system is slowing up IMO Defrag the drives I would suggest Power Defrag GUI Free & works with Windows 98 upwards to Windows 7 (tried & tested) & a Security scan just incase there's some 'nasty' lurking in cyberspace.

I did a "deep" full scan with Malwarebytes and it showed nothing untoward so hopefully it was just a blip but I will stick with Microsoft at the moment.As said above the first scan is a long one but if you get peace of mind it is worth it.
Hi I have just done a full scan with microsoft it took 3 1/2 hours, but the stuff it found on top of the first lot, was unbelievable, computer has got a lot faster. thanks you guys. alan
p.s. Seaman be careful with malwarerbyets. it caursed a lot of problems with my set up last year, I ended up bining it.

Well I have not noticed either but it helps to have lots of RAM. There are lots of other features too with Norton.
