Nothing to do with birding but if any forum users have AVG security installed on their computer and if so have they had any problems recently.I keep getting messages that the system needs updating and needs to shut down to do so only to get the message that it was unsuccessful so after a day of this I have uninstalled AVG.Any suggestions you techies out there?
Pete
Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Try downloading the latest version direct from the AVG website instead of updating. I wouldn't stay connected to the internet for long without some form of protection installed.

I use AVG and I agree try downloading latest version. If you use the free version finding the free download can sometimes be harder to find, but it is always on their site somewhere
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

Hi I have avg and it has been fine, no problems, I keep it updated but I also have advanced system care which I use once a week. as galatas said it is very unwise to have no protection.
always many sides to an argument
Galatas,I tried that a couple of times with the same result so I downloaded another freebie, like you I would not take the risk without some cover.
i used to have AVG, it's pretty good, but did start running into problems with updates eventually, so now i use another free anti virus from windows called windows security essentials which i've found to be pretty good too, no probs so far, and i barely notice i have it, as its quite unobtrusive and doesn't bother you too much, even for updates as its all done automatically

Doggie,I had not thought of that must check on BT site.I wonder if my AVG got hit by a bug a nobody else seems to be having problems, at the moment I have downloaded Avira free and hope it is ok.
I get McAfee free with my BT broadband. It works well, no problems really.
Cheers, Linda.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials which has a good write up. I found Norton was getting in the way of a lot of things and slowing the computer. You never really know how good it is until something happens.

hello, I was going to suggest 'Microsoft Security Essentials' does what it says on the tin. If you have had Norton www.softpedia.com/.../Norton-Removal-Tool.shtml use this tool as the software leaves cookies that can cause issues when you load your new security set up. I would suggest giving your PC the once over with the free ESET Agent Removal Tool go.eset.com/.../free-antivirus-utilities incase of any nasties lurking. My 2p worth.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials on all my machines and have had no problems at all.
