Hi,
I have noticed that the male bullfinches visiting my garden in Devon have a chest colour which seems to vary from light orange to a deep red. Could anyone tell me if this is natural or is it something that's not quite right with the bird itself. All replies would be appreciated.
Geoff.
Hi Alan,
thanks for the welcome message. Really appreciate the info and am still trying to find out how to do things on here. That's useful info but I was also wondering if it was something to do with their diet,
Regards,
Hi again,
I've tried to find out how to look at your images but I'm baffled, I have found some of your post's but that's about all so far. If you have a moment take a look at the Bullfinch I posted when I joined to see what I mean,
Yep! there is a difference Alan, I have a pair that look similar to this too, thanks again,
Hi Geoff,
We had a pair of bullfinches in our garden last year and the male and female are very different in colour. The male has a very brightly coloured chest (reddy orange) whereas the female's is more of a buff colour.
Here is a photo of them both together:

Thanks for the image, very Kind of you,
It looks to me like the male's colouring varies, and to an extent is unique unto itself, the text book images I feel are only a guide in reality,
