Welcome back everyone, the site upgrade has so far been successful and we have brought it back online early! Hopefully you will all be able to have a good look round and get a feel for the new layout.
When you get to the Community home page you will notice the blue bar along the top, most categories on this have drop down menus which will lead you to the various forums and blogs related to the specific topics. All of the original content will still be accessible but you may notice a few things have been moved around and will look slightly different. We will be explaining these changes as we go over the next few days.
Feel free to post away and we hope that you will enjoy using the new site!

I agree with you this one Sheena. There's an old saying, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it". But then were would we be without progress? OK so sometimes it doesn't always work out, but hey, I'd much rather be the test pilot for this site than the latest fighter jet or space shuttle replacement. I do think that there are a number of ways that this site could be improved, but has anyone thought about the work the guys behind the scenes have put into this, then there is the expense for servers too? I think a much better approach would be to just take things a little more slowly, have a cuppa, and write a nice message with suggestions instead of just throwing in the towel. Without mistakes, we learn nothing.
Regards, Paul
Hi All
Well I have to say that after looking at the new forum for the past few days I think it is absolutely AWFUL....
I miss the way it was before when you could log on and see the headings to the posts, some of which were very funny and you could tell straight away if a post would be of interest to you. I liked to see peoples avatars, who was a good egg and how many posts etc.....
I think it is now over complicated, and I for one do not have the time or inclination to use it as it is.
It was such a lovely user friendly site before, and I am now very dissapointed as I don't think I will be using it, and the posts seem to be all over the place :((((
What a wonderful world :))
Hi-
I have decided to give it a go for a month. It really needs a quick overhaul to make it user friendly.
The RSPB arent daft enough to have a totally confusing front line flagship community site.
They'll fix it ( I hope) before word gets out too widely into the birding community
:)

Hi all, thank you for your comments and willingness to give the new layout a chance, we have been toying with a few ideas to make this site a bit more user friendly after some very useful feedback from you so hopefully you will notice some improvements in the very near future. If you do have any constructive feedback that you would like to give we would love to hear it.
Thanks again for your patience.
The fact that a large percentage of the input on the forum are remarks on the faults of the new set up instead of discussing birds and birding and all the other stuff we love to rabbit on about must show somebody higher up they have got a ot of things wrong.I wouldn't wish to swap jobs with the mods at the moment.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can

I loathe and detest this new format. Above all, the worst thing is the americanisation of the date. Whatever came over the designers of all this, I have no idea. Apart from the occasional snail-like speed of the old layout, it was absolutely fine.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

This Americanisation of the date only seems to affect some people, Rach. I see it in perfectly normal format. The date of your post appears to me as 26 May 2011 3:34 PM.
Give the forum a chance. I'm sure they'll sort out the gremlins and make it more use friendly in due course.

I see it as Thu, May 26 2011 5.21pm
I think it's variable for different people but we can't change it ourselves
Best wishes Chris

It's weird isn't it, Chris. It must be something to do with the way people's browsers are interpreting the date being transmitted but it's beyond my competence to explain it.
