How to use Tags

Hi all

We have had a look at the threads on tags and we agree that there isn't enough guidance on using TAGS. Here are a few bullets that might be of interest.

I like to think of them as keywords that relate to the content in the post. For example, on the recent poll on returning migrants i used 'migration' and 'poll' as tags.
The tags that appear in the right hand corner of the home page are the most frequently used. If more people used tags and varied the words being used the words in the right hand corner would change more frequently.
It is a good idea to add tags on every post as hopefully when we get a new quicker system they will remain and it will enable fast and easy searching for relevant topics.
When adding tags, sepearte the words using commas.

I'm sure i have missed some useful pointers and will add them if they pop into my brain, if you can suggest anything else regarding tags then please comment here.

I only place a tag on my first post on a new thread - so I will add on others in the future

I've got a tag on me and have'nt found out how to remove it yet. Any suggestions?

Thanks for that. I must admit, I have sometimes put a Tag on relating to the subject in the thread or post, but I often forget. I will try and remember to add Tags from now on. :-)

Hi Ian

May I ask please? Does the person who starts the thread add tags or does everyone who replies add one too? Won't this create a bit of duplication? eg I start a thread about Wrens and add the tag 'Wren'. If someone replies, do they add a tag about Wrens too? I suppose if it's a different keyword eg 'Territory' then that can be added??

A few questions to catch up with!

I have just learnt that moderators can edit/remove tags so Barnsley Lad is no longer a favourite tag.

With regards to repetition, there is no harm in using the same tags in every post, be it the start of a thread or a reply, if the tag is relevant to the content then it will help when using the Tags for searching.

Give me a nudge if i have missed anything!
