Like the others have said, please don't beat yourself up about it. These things happen.

My OH was once test driving a car and a pheasant flew out of the hedge right into his bumper. It was a busy road and there was nothing he could have done to avoid it.

Local to me pheasants seem to develop a death wish around roads at a certain time of the year. :-(

I can imagine lot's of people stopping in the middle of the road upon seeing a sight like that. :-)

Fortunately, humans and birds were all OK. :-)
