killed a wee bird today , it hit ma car , i know it happens but i still hate it :-(
take nothing but pictures, and leave only footprints
aw bless your heart - it happens! It's not very nice I know but they seem to be playing suicide at the moment don't you think. I've lost count the times I've had to brake in the car because a bird has darted low across the road lately.
It's not your fault :-)
Regards
Kerry

Yeah Kezmo it`s frustrating , but please don`t swerve , you might end up worse off .
:( Sorry to hear that, but don't beat yourself up - it wasn't intentional. Still makes you feel like crap. I ran a mouse over once and was so upset I had to pull over, so I'm not one to talk!
Yes, the blackbirds especially fly over our country lanes very low, I have never hit one but have had one or two near misses. Don't feel too bad although it must be very upsetting, it is not your fault.
Once while driving, I saw a dead blackbird in the road ahead and drove so I did not run over it. I looked back in the mirror and was sure I saw a wing move. I pulled over and ran back to pick it up (it was a busy main road). Sure enough it was still alive, just! Luckily my friend was in the car and held it wrapped up in my fleece until we got home. To cut a long story short, it stayed with us two days then flew off happy and well.
Just to cheer you up with a story that does have a happy ending. :-)
Kind regards Jane.
Nightmare; still 9/10 there's nothing you can do (perhaps except run off the road!).
I'm out and about in my car for work daily and I drive a lot in rural roads and I am continually braking and swerving around dopey birds - the worst are Wood Pigeons just sat in the road and close runners up are Pheasants. In fact Blackbirds are nightmares too as they fly so low to the road.
In fact just last week I very nearly hit a Buzzard which shot out of some trees very low to my left and just climbed in time as I broke sharp - got a fantastic view of it's tail mind - full view in my windscreen (i must have brushed the feathers). God, I'd have been mortified if I'd hit that....
hey dov
Please don't feel too bad about it. Can I tell you a story that happened to me last year, not entirely the same I know but I know exactly how you feel!
I nearly ran over a female mallard and her babies crossing the road - I was being tail chased by an eager beaver who thought I wasn't going fast enough on a rural piece of road. I was so busy watching him in my rear view mirror that I came across Mum and her ducklings far too late. I broke hard and skidded to a halt with the tail chaser swerving and braking behind me to avoid crashing into to me. I got out of the car straight away and I think the bloke driving the car behind me was expecting alot of abuse but I was so worried about the duck and the ducklings that I completely ignored him and started checking beneath the car. I can' express to you how I felt at that exact moment but so relieved to find Mum and ducklings were scooted down beneath my car and then waddled off down the road! When I eventually turned to the guy in the car behind me, he just looked at me gobbed smacked as if to say you stopped the car for that!!
I shan't say what I said at the time as it will be deleted by the mods come Monday but suffice to say I made my feelings known!
Thats the perils of modern living it cant be helped and its not your fault because if you could of missed it you would have done all in your powers not to have hit it.
I find blackbirds the worst driving first thing in the morning headlights on they constantly fly out inches in front of the car not hit one yet.

Same thing happened to my father and I (him driving, me as a passenger) a few years ago - it's the closest I've ever been to a buzzard, that's for sure! A little too close for comfort really - my heart was in my mouth, but thankfully it flew away having just glanced off the windscreen.
dov - don't beat yourself up, sad though it is, it's bound to happen and there's not much you can do about it.
Thankfully for my nervous disposition I've never hit any kind of animal whilst at the wheel, but on one of my driving lessons (probably only the third or fourth - of many!!) I came across a wood pigeon in the road and didn't know what to do - it was a mixture of blind panic, some very bad language, braking, swerving, stalling and nearly crashing with an oncoming taxi.... But the pigeon flew away unharmed!!

Awww Kerry - that is so typical of you and your kind nature. A happy ending for all concerned.
Hey Dov,
As the others have said - please don't fret. It wasn't your fault.
Cheers, Linda.

Don't feel bad dov. A few years back while she was pedalling down a country lane a friend had a Blackcap fly straight into the spokes of her bicycle wheel. The result wasn't pretty......
