Under age users

Hi All

Just a quick reminder that the RSPB forum is for over 18's only, check out the terms and conditions here for the full rules and reg's.

If you do notice a member of the forum is under age, please report this to us using the report abuse function so that we can contact them directly and point them to other areas of the RSPB that are more appropriate. Please do not encourage them to use the forum as the rules are there to ensure child welfare and safety.

Thanks for reading

Best wishes

  • Oh dear Ian

    Thanks for the reminder

I think we did have a 16 year old saying hello recently. She seemed really nice and very enthusiastic but rules are rules and child welfare is paramount.

    Cheers

  • Hi Ian

I was concerned about this issues recently, and thank you for bringing this to our attention here

There have been a couple of times recently where we have had that happening on here

    Just better to be safe

  • Thanks Ian.

I did raise the concern of underage members when a thread about personal messaging was raised a few days ago. I have to confess I have not fully read T &C, There have been a few posts recently from younger members.

Hi Ian suppose this means using the forum to participate as opposed to just reading what is commented on and surely we should encourage younger members to read under supervision as it is shooting ourselves in the foot to stop them altogether as they will hopefully become members.

    Hi-

I have  to admit at 17 ( with my life list of 185) I'd  have been all over this sort of forum if they'd existed in 1976 :)

  • Hi Ian

    Thanks for that reminder.

I do remember seeing a new member who was 16 years old, but assumed the rules had changed.

    Best wishes Chris

  • I know there is the pheonix forum, but is there anything else out there for ou youger enthousiasts!! Or does a forum status not work in this situation?

  • Hi Ian

I knew that I had seen something that made me think the rules had changed.

This is the Application form for Registering to join our Community

Note the question:  "Are you 16 years of age or older" and below it the sentence: "The safety of children is paramount to the RSPB. To ensure this, you must be over 16 to use this community."

So unfortunately it seems like there is a discrepancy between the rules you pointed to and the application form that the 16 year old user would have been completing at the time

    Best wishes Chris

  • Well spotted Chris. I hve however seen posts from both a 10 and a 12 yr old so there is still an issue here.
