inserting web addresses

hi guys, how do you all insert web addresses/links into your threads? highlighted in blue clicking on them  takes you to where you want to go directly. i ended up typing one in once which took forever, but it went blue automatically, but im sure theres an easier way! in this instance theres something in my favourites that id like to put in a thread, maybe its because its in my favourites list thats  causing the prob & i need to select it another way? any help much appreciated. paul.

  • Like this: {url}www.somewebsiteorother.co.uk{/url} but use square rather than curly brackets :)

  • Hi Paul

All I do is simply open the site I want to post a link too in a different tab/window and then return to post I have started in the forum, when I am ready to insert the link I simply open the tab/window with the desired site on and copy the web address directly from the address bar, return to the forum and click on this area where we write and click paste.

Wow having written that it makes it sound all so confusing but in reality it takes seconds to do?

I highlight the address in the display of the browser. I then right click the address and copy it to my clipboard. I then write the text of the link like..........this is the link........ I then highlight the text of the link and then click the <insert link> icon. This opens a window where I paste the URL of the link. Then I usually instruct it to open in a new window. I click inset and the job is finished.

Maybe we should have a practice thread?

Hi Paul. You don't need the 'cut' function, just right click copy. I'm sure you will find it easy once you have done it. To recap:

    1. open the page you want to link to in another tab
    2. highlight the page address in the address window at the top and  right click/copy
    3. return to your post here and either right click paste the address directly into your post or make a hyperlink
    4. to make a hyperlink you first type the text you want as a title, highlight it, then click on the chain link icon
    5. paste the address you copied as instructed into the box that opens up
    6. click insert
  • Hi paul

When you want to insert a web address/link into your threads, you need to a) open another window, b) find your link then highlight it and press Control + C to copy it.

Then you c) come back to the RSPB forum and either start a thread or Select Reply or Edit on a thread to start your own post.

Then when you have typed whatever post you want to say you select the appropriate word which describes your link i.e. if you're posting a link about a bird feeder then the words you select might be 'bird feeder'.

You then highlight the word or words by left-clicking and dragging your mouse cursor over the word, and when you do that, you will see the little chain light up along the grey bar below the word Description.

    d) Then you click on the chain to paste your original link into that word (or those words).

A little box will come up and you press Control + V to paste the link into the first line, and on the second line you choose whether to open the link in the same window or a new window.

    Good luck

    Best wishes Chris

  • Paul perhaps it might be easier for you to simply right click/paste (or Ctrl+V) your copied web address straight into your post and leave the hyperlinks until you feel ready to give it a try.

  • Paul how are you getting on with your attempts to post links?

  • a big thank you to all those who helped me to insert a link in my posts! dunno what i was doing wrong before but followed your tips and hey presto, mission accomplished! try hyperlink next time! :-))))
